A Limerick teenager has been charged in connection with an alleged assault on a garda.
Mr Kenneth Kelly (19), Oliver Plunkett Street, St Mary's Park, Limerick, was arrested shortly after midnight on New Year's Eve after an incident in the Nicholas Street area of Limerick city.
It is alleged Mr Kelly struck the garda on the head with a bottle, knocking him unconscious.
The garda was hospitalised but it is understood his injuries are not serious. Mr Kelly was charged at a special sitting of Limerick District Court on New Year's Day.
He appeared before the same court again yesterday, where he was remanded on bail until February 1st.
Insp Séamus Gallagher told Judge Leo Malone yesterday that the DPP would need some time to decide on directions.
Judge Malone remanded Mr Kelly on bail for three weeks, when he is due to appear again before Limerick District Court.
