The man whose body was found in a shallow grave in Limerick yesterday died from a gunshot wound, gardaí confirmed this evening.
Gardaí search Caledonian Park soccer pitch, adjacent to the railway line where a body was found yesterday.
The body of James Cronin (20), of Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, was found in Caledonian Park on Hyde Park at about midday yesterday. He had been missing since Saturday.
A postmortem was carried out this afternoon on his body.
Gardaí believe the man was shot in a gangland dispute connected with the killing of Mark Moloney (40) in the Garryowen area of the city on Saturday afternoon.
Gardaí were searching the area for guns used in two shootings in the city on Saturday.
State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy carried out a preliminary examination of the grave site yesterday. The body was removed from the grave this morning for a postmortem this afternoon, a Garda spokeswoman said.
While searching the waste ground, gardaí found a machine pistol, a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition.
Elsewhere, an 18-year-old being questioned today about a shooting at a house in Southill, Limerick, early on Saturday morning is to appear in court. He was due to appear at a special sitting of Limerick District Court at 5.30pm.
