Rush Limbaugh, the conservative US radio show host, is continuing to lose advertisers in the wake of his calling Georgetown Law School student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute”. His comments were prompted by Ms Fluke’s Capitol Hill testimony supporting health-plan coverage for contraception.
AOL was among the latest advertisers to exit the show, saying that the company had "determined that Mr Limbaugh's comments are not in line with our values". Other advertisers who have distanced themselves from the show include Proflowers.com, Citrix Systems, Sears Holdings and Allstate Insurance, according to the Wall Street Journal.
And now musician Peter Gabriel has demanded that his music not be played on the show after learning that his song Sledgehammerwas playing during Limbaugh's tirade against Ms Fluke.
Limbaugh issued an apology for his comments, one that Ms Fluke said did little to change the “corrosive” tone of the debate, as she saw it, on contraception. Yesterday, Limbaugh attacked his critics. “Talk about a double standard,” he said. “Rappers can say anything they want about women. It’s called art. And they win awards.” – (Agencies)
