A man was rescued from a punt in Strangford Lough early this morning after getting into difficulties in strong winds and rough seas.
Portaferry RNLI Lifeboat said the alarm was raised after the man’s punt began taking on water near Green Island, just off the popular tourist town of Killyleagh, Co. Down.
The RNLI crew reached the man, who was in his early 20s, at about 6.00am. His boat was in imminent danger of sinking, a spokesman said.
The man was brought aboard the lifeboat and taken ashore at Strangford, where a waiting ambulance took him to Downpatrick Hospital. His injuries are not serious.
