Camp Zeist Lawyers for two Libyans accused of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing pointed the finger yesterday at a Palestinian group based in Germany for blowing up Pan Am Flight 103.

In his closing submissions, Mr William Taylor, speaking for Mr Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, said a cell of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command was based in western Germany at the time.

It had "both the intention and the means to destroy a civil aircraft", was interested in American flights and had acquired a Pan Am timetable, he said. The cell had also acquired seven unused Lufthansa luggage labels.
