Liberties pub fire injures woman and child

A woman and her granddaughter are recovering in hospital this morning following a fire at a pub in the Liberties in Dublin’s south inner city.

They are suffering from smoke inhalation. The 56-year-old woman was brought to nearby St James’s Hospital and the four-year-old child is being treated at Crumlin Children’s Hospital. They are expected to be released later today.

The two were reportedly rescued from a window ledge by the fire brigade as smoke from the fire at Baker’s Pub on the corner of Meath Street and Thomas Street reached their upstairs flat.

Several other people escaped from the flats in the four-storey building after the fire early this morning.

A Garda spokesman said the fire is being investigated, but foul play is not suspected.
