A well-known Limerick businessman was involved in the abduction of a Liberian national, who was told he and his wife would be shot by the IRA if items stolen in a robbery were not returned, a court has heard.
Raphael Mullally (40), Waterville, Ennis Road Limerick, pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to the false imprisonment of Jude Romanus (40), a Liberian, at Upper Carey's Road, Limerick, on January 15th last.
The father of three also admitted a charge of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to Mr Romanus and to assaulting him causing him harm at Punch's Pub car park in Limerick on the same date.
Jonathan Goodison (24), Thomondgate, Limerick, and Thomas McMahon (24) Flanker Court, Galvone Road, Limerick, pleaded guilty to the false imprisonment of Jude Romanus at Upper Carey's Road on January 15th last. Both men also pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening to kill Mr Romanus or cause him harm on the same date and to a further charge of threatening Mr Romanus's wife.
Judge Carroll Moran adjourned Mullally's sentencing until Friday.
