Leinster 49 Connacht 20
Leinster have clinched the Guinness Interprovincial championship, their first interpro title since 1998.
Matt William’s side sealed the title courtesy of a 49-20 win over Connacht at the Sportsground this evening, their tally of six tries earning a vital bonus point and rendering the result of Munster’s clash with Ulster on Friday obsolete.
Ireland centre Brian O’Driscoll helped himself to two of those tries with captain Reggie Corrigan, Simon Keogh and Peter McKenna adding to the tally.
In the dying minutes Aidan McCullen, who, along with the entire Leinster bench was given a taste of the action, put the gloss on the win with a score under the posts.
Brian O’Meara, who earned the man-of-the-match plaudits playing at out-half, kicked a total of 17 points. Fergal Campion kicked the final conversion.
Leinster’s win, which brings down the curtain on Munster’s recent dominance of this series, delivers the second trophy of a highly successful season to Donnybrook. Earlier in the year, Leinster claimed the inaugural Celtic League title with a win over Munster at Lansdowne Road.
