Leicester City have fined Frank Sinclair two weeks' wages following the incident in a Heathrow Hotel that resulted in four Chelsea players being reprimanded by their club yesterday.

The former Stamford Bridge full-back was with Jody Morris, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Eidur Gudjohnsen in the Posthouse Hotel, which was busy with stranded American tourists the day after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

"I wish to publicly apologise for my behaviour," said a statement issued by Sinclair at Filbert Street today. "There was no intention to show any disrespect to the people of America. I deeply regret any embarrassment that has been caused".

A hotel official confirmed yesterday the players had been drunk and were "knocking things over" during a drinking binge only possible because Chelsea's UEFA Cup tie with Levski Sofia had been called off as a mark of respect to the victims of the atrocities.

Their actions brought widespread condemnation from footballing figures, with West Ham's Paolo di Canio stating that the quintet should be banned for a month.

The fine is in line with that dished out by Chelsea, with Sinclair confirming the money will be paid into an appeal fund to help the families of those killed and injured.

"I have spoken with the manager this morning and have been informed that I will be subject to a club fine of two weeks' wages," he said. "We have agreed that these monies will be paid into an appeal for the victims of the tragedies". - PA
