Students who sought a recheck of the grades they were awarded in certain Leaving Certificate subjects will find out today how they fared.
The Department of Education and Science has revealed that more than one-in-five students who applied for a recheck had their marks upgraded. But there is bad news for three students whose original result was downgraded on appeal.
The scripts of several students who never sought a recheck were also looked at. This culminated in 390 upgrades and the students affected will be notified by post today.
A total of 7,585 grades were appealed this year and 1,413 were successful. This represents 1,413 upgrades out of a total of 429,000 grades awarded in the examination.
A Department representative said the majority of upgrades involved just one subgrade, from a B2 to a B1, for example.
On higher-level papers the majority of upgrades were in English, while at ordinary level most upgrades were in mathematics.
