Scottish Premier League chairman Lex Gold is confident both sides of the warring league can be brought together to end the rift that threatens the Scottish game.

Celtic and Rangers vetoed proposals for SPL TV to the dismay of the other 10 clubs, who announced their intention to quit the league as a result.

The SPL has been in talks with television companies for a two-year deal to show the Scottish top flight.

Former Hibernian chairman Gold insists all 12 clubs will be meeting in the near future to try and cement a new TV deal. "My main task is to bring both sides round the table and I am hopeful I will be able to do that within the next few weeks," Gold said.

"I have spoken to both sides and they are keen to find a solution. There is a broad agreement in principle that it would be a sensible thing.

"Both sides recognise that there has been a range of things said in the media which would make people think having such a meeting would be difficult, but I believe I will get them back together.

"In fact, I think we can get things on an even keel for the start of the new season but, obviously, the big issue is the kind of media deal we can get between now and then as the market is difficult".

Channel 5, Sky and BBC Scotland have all expressed an interest in showing Scottish football.
