Berlin - Former German chancellor Dr Helmut Kohl was questioned yesterday by a firm auditing his party's finances as pressure mounted after threats of jail to force him to reveal secret donors to his Christian Democrats (CDU).
Current Chancellor, Mr Gerhard Schroder, said talk of placing Dr Kohl, the giant of post-war German politics, in prison to get him to reveal donors to secret accounts was "uncalled for". "I assume Helmut Kohl knows his duty as a citizen and will do his duty," Mr Schroder told reporters.
