Liverpool's Harry Kewell underlined a fine display for Australia with the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Jamaica in a friendly this afternoon.
Kewell struck in the 58th minute as Australia secured a success on "home" soil after completing a deal to play a number of matches at Reading's ground.
The two nations could yet meet in a playoff to reach the 2006 World Cup finals and on this display Australia must fancy their chances of doing well and making it all the way to Germany.
Australia took the lead on 19 minutes when impressive midfielder Marco Bresciano, who plays for Parma, volleyed home from 12 yards after the ball had rebounded kindly into his path.
Jamaica equalised a minute later with their first meaningful attack of the match which ended with Kevin Lisbie hooking into an empty net.
Kewell saw one powerful effort strike the bar, while Jamaica keeper Donovan Ricketts produced a stunning save to tip over another effort by the Liverpool man.
But he got his reward for an outstanding display when he raced clear of the defence and finished clinically past the on-rushing Ricketts.
