An exhibition of photographs from south-west Kerry is expected to be a major draw for visitors to the Ring of Kerry.
Sean O hArgain of the Integrated Resource Centre in Waterville has been in touch to say that a new photographic exhibition has been assembled there called "Skellig Region Reflections". Professional photographers like Don McMonagle, who works regularly for this newspaper, are involved, but so are amateur photo enthusiasts from the region.
The exhibition is about images of south-west Kerry peninsula from Sneem to Kells. In this part of the Ring of Kerry, Waterville is the main stopping-off point for tourists but the people living between Sneem and Kells also believe they have something to offer and are using the exhibition to publicise the attractions of the region for bus tours and private tourists alike.
The exhibition was opened last weekend by Johnny Curran, a local author who was disabled in a traffic accident 15 years ago. He wrote about it in Just my Luck, an account of his life and times.
The permanent exhibition will not be open to the general public until Easter. After that the hope is that when the tourists stop on this part of the Ring of Kerry, they will want to linger a little longer than they have been doing.
