A community initiative involving travellers, representatives of the settled community and statutory authorities, has been established by Kerry County Council to address the problem of providing traveller accommodation. The council estimates that in excess of £100,000 is being spent on court proceedings on the issue.
The first in what is hoped will be a series of traveller liaison committees is to be set up in Tralee. Kerry County Manager, Mr Martin Nolan, said it is in the interests of both travellers and the settled community to develop a peaceful, productive, living and working relationship.
