Former UN chief Kofi Annan suspended Kenya's crisis talks today to consult President Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga on how to push through a power-sharing deal.
"I'm going to engage the leaders . . . in the hope that we will find a way of moving much faster. . . . The sessions are suspended for the moment and I will discuss with the leaders how we will move forward," Mr Annan told reporters.
The negotiations have failed to resolve the dispute between Mr Kibaki and Mr Odinga, who says the December presidential election was a sham.
International and local monitors say the results of the vote were manipulated, making it unclear who won.
President Kibaki says the election was fair, making him the legitimate leader.
Kenya erupted into violence after the election at the end of December with attacks leaving more than 1,000 dead and 600,000 forced from their homes.
The violence has largely subsided in recent weeks, however.
