Late Late Showhost Pat Kenny is expected to begin a lengthy and potentially costly legal battle with his neighbour today as he attempts to secure squatter's rights over a valuable piece of cliff-top land.
The High Court case is due to be heard by Ms Justice Maureen Clark barring any last minute moves by the broadcaster’s lawyers.
Mr Kenny’s legal team, who last week attempted to have the case thrown out, has been given details of more than 700 documents relating to the land dispute which may delay the hearing.
The row, between Kenny and retired solicitor Gerard Charlton and his wife Maeve, is over the ownership of the small strip of land known as Gorse Hill between their homes in Dalkey.
The patch of land under dispute is worth around €1.5 million but if combined with adjacent sites it is thought it could have a development value running to €10 million.
Mr Kenny claims he acquired title to the land - which runs the length of his home in the Dalkey area - following adverse possession or squatter’s rights.
The 60-year-old broadcaster claimed Mr Charlton deliberately held back aerial photographs of the land ahead of the court battle damaging his case and last week lost out in his bid to have the case thrown out.
Mr Kenny’s lawyers have subsequently been told there are more than 700 other documents being held by Mr Charlton’s lawyers.
If the case does go to full hearing, it could last four weeks and cost millions.
