The Fine Gael leader, Enda Kenny today invited the Taoiseach and the Minister for Finance to discuss Fine Gael’s ‘Rebuilding Ireland’ plan launched earlier this week. Mr Kenny claims the plan would generate 100,000 jobs over the next four years.
He was speaking at the Ireland East European Selection Convention in Newbridge this afternoon. The convention selected two candidates to run for the party, outgoing MEP Mairead McGuinness and Senator John Paul Phelan.
"We have published a detailed plan to get this country back to work. More than that, Fine Gael has a plan for our economy that will help make us the most competitive and sustainable economy in Europe," he said.
"The Government has given a cautious welcome to its publication. I now invite the Taoiseach and the
Minister for Finance to constructively engage with us in the national interest to deliver the benefits of our proposals to the country."
Mr Kenny said his party's jobs plan "sets out a roadmap that will get 100,000 people back to work in the next four years and, in the process, will position our economy as a world leader in green energy, make us energy self sufficient and an energy exporter."
"We need to get costs down, regain competitiveness and produce goods that international consumers want
to buy," he said.
"As a people we can begin the fight back against the recession with this stimulus package. But the smart decisions have to be taken now so that we avert any further slippage down the competitiveness, jobs and IT league tables of the world."
