Taoiseach Enda Kenny has called on candidates in the presidential race to be open and "upfront" with the electorate.
Speaking in Dublin this afternoon, Mr Kenny was asked if he thought Senator David Norris should publish controversial clemency letters he wrote on behalf of his former partner.
Mr Kenny said the people are going to have their say about who they want to represent their country in Áras an Uachtaráin.
“From that point of view, I think that all the candidates have to be upfront with the electorate and with the people because they want to know and they have a right to know, if they are going to make a decision to cast their votes or not," Mr Kenny said.
The Taoiseach said the process and about whether particular personalities would become candidates or not is now over. “That is now concluded and this is a seven-person contest," he said.
He said Fine Gael will now focus on the qualities of its candidate Gay Mitchell, who "has all of the credentials to do an outstanding job for the country”.
