LIAM KEANE, the nephew of Limerick crime figure Kieran Keane, has been returned for trial on charges of possession of a semi-automatic pistol and ammunition.
The 23-year-old - whose Bebo webpage was removed from the social networking site earlier this week following allegations that he was sending mobile phone images from his prison cell - appeared before Limerick District Court yesterday.
Keane, with an address at Singland Gardens, Ballysimon, Limerick, is charged with possession of a of a Glock semi-automatic pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition at Athlunkard Road, Corbally, on May 4th last. He is also facing two separate charges under the Road Traffic Act including driving with no insurance and driving a stolen car on the same date.
Keane remained silent during yesterday's brief hearing.
Det Sgt Derek Clancy served the book of evidence in the case, which was sent forward for trail to Limerick Circuit Criminal Court on September 30th next.
Judge Leo Malone issued Keane with the alibi warning, which means he must give the State two weeks' notice of any witnesses he intends calling.
Keane's co-accused, Greg Crawford, St Munchin's Street, St Mary's Park, was also returned for trial yesterday to the next sitting of Limerick Circuit Criminal Court. The 21-year-old is also charged with possession of a Glock semi-automatic pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition at Athlunkard Road on May 4th last.
