The army of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) paid its final military honours today to president, Mr Laurent Kabila as his body arrived at Kinshasa's airport.
It was met by his son, 32-year-old General Joseph Kabila, who took over as head of state after a bodyguard fatally shot his father last Tuesday.
The plane carrying the body circled the city centre, where troops were patrolling and practically every car was bedecked with leaves as a sign of mourning, before touching down at the airport at 12:17 p.m. (11.17 GMT).
A military band played the national anthem as officers saluted the coffin and a picture of the slain president.
