A jury has failed to reach a verdict in the trial of a 49-year-old man charged with raping a then 12-year-old girl in a funfair caravan more than 20 years ago. The man had denied a single charge of raping the girl as she visited the fair in the summer of 1989.
After the jury failed to reach a verdict yesterday at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork, Mr Justice Paul Carney thanked jurors and discharged them.
He remanded the accused on continuing bail.
