JUDGMENT was reserved in the High Court yesterday in an action being taken by a group which claimed it was not properly notified about plans by Wicklow County Council to demolish a historic building.
Mr Justice Kelly said he would reserve his decision.
The chairman of Blessington and District Community Council, Mr Francis Corcoran, said in an affidavit the village of Ballyknockan was unique.
One of the buildings is known as Laurel Lodge. Mr Corcoran said it was of national importance.
He is claiming that public notice about a proposed development was inadequate and that the proposed building would be completely out of character. The failure to lodge objections were solely related to this failure.
Mr Andrew Farrington, a stone cutter in Ballyknockan, in an affidavit said he was unaware of plans to demolish the building and he and others approached the developer not to proceed. If he had been aware of an application for the proposed development he would have lodged a submission.
The developers granted planning permission to demolish the house were AOSOG Centres Ltd. Its director, Mr Dominic Dowling, claimed all steps necessary to permit the proposed development had been undertaken.
