Judgment was reserved yesterday in paratrooper Lee Clegg's appeal against a fouryear jail sentence arising out of the fatal shooting of two teenage "joyriders" in west Belfast nine years ago.

In the Appeal Court in Belfast, the Lord Chief Justice, Sir Robert Carswell, sitting with Lord Justice Nicholson and Mr Justice Gillen, said they wished to reflect on the legal arguments and would deliver judgment in due course.

Mr Clegg (30) was originally convicted of murdering Ms Karen Reilly but was acquitted at a retrial this year.

At the same retrial he was convicted of attempting to wound Mr Martin Peake and sentenced to four years. Mr Peake was also killed when paratroopers fired 19 bullets into a stolen car on the Glen Road in September 1990.
