London - Five judges have been reprimanded for making racist comments, Lord Chancellor Lord Irvine revealed yesterday as he launched a new gaffe-busting guide for the judiciary. Two have been ordered to go on race-awareness courses after making offensive remarks. Comments included insulting the Vietnamese community and branding all well-educated Nigerians as criminals.

One of the judges reprimanded was Judge Graham Boal, who was forced to apologise publicly after making an offensive joke at a legal dinner earlier this year. Lord Irvine said he had set up a team of officials to investigate complaints against judges when he came into office, and personally oversaw every allegation of racism.
