The Director of Public Prosecutions should indicate a point of view about bail for defendants who plead guilty to criminal offences, Judge Cyril Kelly said yesterday.
Judge Kelly made his comments in a case at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after a detective said there was no Garda objection to bail in the case of a teenager who admitted having a quantity of ecstasy for supply on February 9th, 1995, at Coultry Road, Dublin.
Judge Kelly said that while the view of gardai carried weight, he believed the DPP should also indicate a view to the court on behalf of the people of the State.
John Murphy (19), of Craigue Court, Dublin, was remanded on continuing bail for sentence on March 13th next.
