Tralee Circuit Court heard an adverse comment about the safety of the road around Slea Head on the Dingle Peninsula during a hearing for damages yesterday.
When a barrister, Mr Brian Curtin, said that one of the cars in a rally around Slea Head in April 1996 drove into spectators, Judge Sean O'Leary remarked: "Don't tell me they were doing a rally around Slea Head. I wouldn't even drive it on a good day, not to mind anything else."
Mr Curtin said that instead of turning left, a car went straight into spectators and a young girl was lucky to have been pulled out of the way.
While three claims were settled, a decree for £7,000 in costs was awarded to Ms Freda Fitzgerald of Lative Meanagh, Ballyferriter, against Mr Timothy McNulty of Summerhill, Co Meath, the Royal Irish Automobile Club, Mr Julian Nagle and the Kerry Motor Club, all with an address c/o Talburn House, Caherleheen, Tralee.
