Retiring superstar Michael Johnson pledged on Wednesday not to walk away from track and field -and had a dig at former rival Carl Lewis for not supporting the sport that made him famous.
Johnson, the 200m and 400m world record holder and five-time Olympic champion, will make his last competitive appearance running the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay for the United States in the Goodwill Games in Brisbane on Friday.
"I will definitely stay involved in a few ways," Johnson told Olympic champion sprinter Marion Jones, who was interviewing him for American television.
"It's always been disappointing to me, after growing up watching the stars of this sport, then seeing them retire from the sport and never get involved in the sport again.
"It's disappointing that Carl (Lewis) says he doesn't come to track meets. 'Track is boring' - I think that was his latest comment and that's disappointing."
Lewis, the winner of a record nine Olympic titles, was a team-mate of Johnson's at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games.
