A well-known jockey in the midlands is recovering in hospital after a serious fall at a point-to-point meeting in Tipperary last weekend.
Sean McManus (22), Rosemount, Athlone, received serious neck injuries after a fall during the Ballingarry point-to-point near Roscrea, Co Tipperary, on Sunday afternoon.
He was taken to the Mater hospital in Dublin following the fall from a horse trained by Frankie Kiernan from Dysart, Mullingar. The jockey was tended to at the scene by local doctors and was taken to Nenagh hospital before being transferred to the Mater. He underwent surgery in the hospital yesterday afternoon and remains in a stable condition.
Morgan Cahalan, on whose land the point-to-point was held, said the jockey was treated at the trackside by local doctors Patrick O'Flaherty and Matthew Coughlan before being transferred to Nenagh hospital.
Mr Cahalan said the jockey had a "horrible fall" and he extended best wishes to him on behalf of all involved with the Ballingarry point-to-point.
"We all hope he recovers soon and that he will be fit and well in the very near future," Mr Cahalan said.
