Tina May (right) has earned respect as one of the better European exponents of the art of jazz singing. An intimate performer with a subtle, almost conversational style, she has found a soul mate in her regular accompanist, pianist Nikki Iles. If, on their 1997 duo album, Change of Sky, the emotional climate they explore is somewhat restricted, it's also richly sophisticated and referentially hip; the standard, My One And Only Love, has an opening based on Bill Evans's Peace Piece, for example. But May can handle the uptempo stuff, too, and her range also encompasses the French chanson tradition. They play in Belfast on Sunday and in Dublin on Monday.
