Tokyo - Japan announced low-interest loans totalling 41.8 billion yen (£235 million) to Turkey yesterday for road and subway construction unrelated to the earthquake. The loans were to help economic development, officials said, and had been scheduled before the massive quake.
The Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr Masahiko Komura, announced the loan during a meeting with the Turkish Economics Minister, Mr Recep Onal, in Ankara. Earlier Mr Komura announced £1 million dollars in aid for the disaster, including $400,000 worth of medicine, tents and blankets.
