A missile thrown up by the blades of a ride-on lawnmower struck a young Galway man on the head and fatally injured him, Dublin City Coroner's Court heard yesterday.
Mr Patrick Geraghty (29), of Shruffaun, Carraroe, was helping his father at home on March 27th last when the accident happened. He died at Beaumont Hospital on March 30th. A post-mortem showed he suffered a depressed skull fracture, and a piece of bone was lodged in his brain.
Mr Patrick Geraghty snr .said he was cutting the grass and his son was moving a swing when something hit him and he collapsed. Sgt John O'Brien, Carraroe, said the mower was a standard model. The missile thrown up by the blades was never found.
The jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
