Italian and French nationals living in Ireland voted for candidates in the European Elections, in their native country, this weekend. Temporary polling stations were set up by embassy staff and nationals were notified through local media of times and places to vote.
Italian nationals arrived at the Consular office of the Italian embassy, on Northumberland road, Dublin, to vote on Friday evening and Saturday. Two policemen from the Italian national police force attended. There are 1,800 Italian, registered, nationals living in Ireland. At 6 p.m. on Saturday, only 9 per cent of the electorate turned out to vote, according to Ms Barbara Brigitte, the Italian Consul in Ireland.
French Nationals also voted, yesterday at the Alliance Francis, Kildare Street, Dublin.
There are 1,022 French nationals, living in Ireland, registered to vote in the European elections in France, according to Mr Eric Bayer, the French Consul in Ireland.
