Prime Minister Ariel Sharon insisted today Israel was prepared for any Iraqi retaliation for a US-led strike.
"The truth must be told a worried public: there is a danger but we have taken all measures to face it," Mr Sharon said.
But he stressed Israel was not "involved in this conflict," and had given no advice to the United States.
Unlike during the 1991 Gulf War when Washington urged restraint, it has not requested any policy on retaliation in the event of Iraqi reprisals this time round.
The two have already held high-level talks, and some 1,000 US soldiers currently based in Germany are expected in Israel in the coming days for joint air defense exercises.
In 1991, 39 Iraqi Scud missiles hit Israel killing two people and injuring hundreds more.
