Israeli jets violated Lebanese airspace today, causing supersonic bangs over towns in the north and south of the country, police said.

The aircraft flew at medium altitude over the southern town of Marjayoun and the coastal city of Sidon, breaking the sound barrier over the two areas, they said.

The fighter-bombers then headed north to make similar sonic booms over the port city of Tripoli, they said.

The United Nations has called several times for Israel to stop violating Lebanese airspace.
