Shalom had been due to visit Saint Petersburg on Wednesday, but instead was planning to head back to Israel around midday, a spokesman for the Israeli embassy in Moscow told journalists, without giving details.
Shalom arrived in Moscow on Monday on his first visit to Russia and had not been due to return to Israel until Thursday.
