Meanwhile, the US peace envoy Mr Anthony Zinni is due to return to the Middle East on Thursday.

A US embassy spokesman said Mr Zinni would be back for an initial four or five days, and would probably "be coming and going" in a bid to push the Palestinians to stick to their ceasefire while urging Israel to ease restrictions on the territories.
