THE man charged in connection with a shooting incident in Co Cavan last week has been freed on bail. Mr Gerrit Isenborger is to appear at Cavan District Court again this morning.
At a District Court sitting in Arvagh, Co Cavan, yesterday he was freed on bail of £10,000 put up by two Co Leitrim men, Mr J.P. Farrelly and Mr Tony Martin. Each put up £5,000.
Judge Donal McArdle told Mr Isenborger that he must not return to the area where the shooting took place at Ballyleenan, Bawnboy, Co Cavan. He is also required to report twice weekly to Ballyconnell Garda station, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
He is to have no contact with Mr Michael Hehle, his former landlord and employer, who owns the Drumcoura City "wild west" theme park near Ballinamore, Co Leitrim.
Neither is he to have any contact with Mr Tommy Owens, the County Sheriff, or two assistants who, along with Mr Owens, were shot and injured on Wednesday of last week at the house where Mr Isenborger lived.
Gardai were last night still awaiting the results of a post mortem on the body of Mrs Pauline Isenborger, Mr Isenborger's mother, who died at the house last week.
Mr Isenborger was charged last Friday with unlawful possession of a Lee Enfield .303 rifle with intent to endanger life and cause serious injury.
He was further charged on three counts of causing grievous bodily harm in that he had discharged a loaded firearm with intent to maim or disfigure Mr Paul Comiskey, Mr Christopher Raythorn and Mr Thomas Owens, on January 15th last, contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act.
A sister of Mr Isenborger has flown to Ireland from France and is arranging Mrs Isenborger's funeral. After a service at Cavan General Hospital at midday on Friday, Mrs Isenborger's body is to be taken to Glasnevin cemetery in Dublin for cremation.
