An Irishman is recovering in hospital after being attacked by a crocodile in Mexico at the weekend.
Sean Treacy (23) was swimming in Nichupte lagoon near the coastal city of Cancun when the crocodile attacked him.
Mr Treacy, who was in Mexico to attend a wedding, received injuries to his upper arm in the attack and also suffered a punctured lung.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said it had not been asked to provide assistance.
Despite the prevalence of crocodiles in the 5,000-hectare Nichupte lagoon, it remains a popular draw for tourists and is frequently used for boating excursions and jet-ski jungle tours.
