AN Irishman was among 22 people arrested in Hong Kong yesterday in connection with the discovery of around $100,000 (£66,000) worth of drugs, including a considerable quantity of ecstasy. The man, from Co Wexford, was still being held last night.
Nine of the 22 people arrested, 13 men and nine women, mainly in their early 20s, were charged with a total of 34 drug offences. Police were unable to confirm if the Irishman was among those charged. The Irish Honorary Consul in Hong Kong, Mr Desmond Murray, is monitoring the situation.
Yesterday's haul included 1,521 ecstasy tablets, 2 kg of cannabis, 300 grams of cocaine and 50 LSD tablets. The ecstasy had a street value of £32,000 while the other drugs had a combined value of £34,000.
