The Department of Foreign Affairs said yesterday the new Irish Embassy in Mexico City will liaise with police in the investigation into the murder of a Dublin man in Acapulco on Tuesday. Mr Eoghan Cranley (24) was shot as he walked on the beach.

Mr Cranley, a student of environmental design at DIT, Mountjoy Square, was mugged while taking an after-dinner stroll. He was the son of Mr Eugene Cranley, former president of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

A hotel night watchman heard a single gunshot at approximately 2 a.m. Mr Cranley had earlier bought two cans of beer at a shop close to the beach. A man, gun in hand, apparently approached the young man demanding money.
