The 2010 Realex Irish Web Awards have been announced with a number of new categories added this year.
Awards organiser Damien Mulley said six additional categories have been created including best mobile application, best microsite, best small business website, best Facebook page for organisations, best web only publication and best no budget/guerrilla social media campaign.
Last year, more than 500 websites were nominated by 600 different people for the annual event, which began in 2008.
Previous winners of Irish Web Awards include The Irish Times, RTE.ie, Silicon Republic, IDA Ireland and Boards.ie.
"We created the Web Awards to allow anyone with any budget or no budget at all to submit their website to compete fairly with others. All of the websites submitted get judged, with those shortlisted going through two judging processes to decide the winners,” said Mr Mulley.
“It's the web community in Ireland, both creators and viewers that judge these sites. Last year we had a panel of 100 judges to go through the 100s of websites submitted,” he added.
Nominations are open until this Thursday and finalists will be announced on October 1st with the Awards ceremony taking place on October 16th.
The awards are free to enter and nominations can be submitted at www.webawards.ie
