Irish Life & Permanent is to sell two US businesses, Interstate Assurance Co and First Variable Life Insurance Co to Protective Life Corp unit Protective Life Insurance Co for around $253 million.

The deal is expected to close in October. The full amount is payable in cash on completion.

Irish Life said it is continuing with its strategic review in respect of Guarantee Reserve Life Insurance, its remaining US business which operates in the small premium final expense market.
