A Cork couple are among six people arrested by Spanish police following the seizure of €6 million worth of drugs on board an Irish yacht.

They were detained after a Spanish navy ship intercepted the Irish-registered Colin Hannah off cadiz  the Spanish coast at about 3.30pm yesterday.

Spanish police found 500kg of cannabis with an estimated street value of €6 million on board the vessel, which they believe originated in Morocco.

Two crew members were arrested on board the vessel and two Irish nationals and two British nationals were arrested in follow up searches in Spain.

Those held include a man  in his late 50s from the southside of Cork city and a woman in her late 50s from Carrigaline.
