The Federation of International Banks in Ireland (FIBI), the representative body of the international banking community in Ireland has expressed its sorrow at the loss of so many of its colleagues in New York.

The federation issued the following statement.

"Mindful of colleagues lost in the World Trade Centre atrocity, we in the international banking community in Ireland wish to express our deep appreciation for the level of sympathy and support received from the Government and from the general public.

The offices of many of the international banks based here have been working round the clock in recent days.

This is in order to provide processing and emergency back-up facilities to various parts of our own banking groups as well as to other institutions affected by Tuesday’s tragic events.

By its very nature, this work will continue tomorrow (Friday), throughout the weekend and for many days and nights to come in support of our colleagues in New York."
