Two men charged over €6m Meath drugs seizure

Gardaí find cocaine and cannabis during search of premises in Ashbourne on Wednesday

Two men have appeared in court in relation to the seizure of drugs valued by gardaí at over €6 million.

The men were arrested on Wednesday at Muckerstown, Ashbourne, Co Meath, when gardaí searched two premises.

Dubliners Michael Smullen (31) and Keith Donoghue (37) appeared this morning before Trim District Court charged with possession of drugs with intent to sell or supply.

They were both remanded in custody.

The court was told by Det William Armstrong that 311kg of cannabis was seized from a shed.

He added it was alleged Mr Smullen was making boxes from flat packs for his co-accused to pack cannabis into.

Mr Smullen has an address at Ashdale Close, Kinsealy, north Dublin.

Mr Donoghue has an address at Swifts Grove, Clonshaugh, Dublin 17.

They were remanded in custody to appear in court again next week.
