Boy (16) dies after being struck by van a day earlier

A teenage pedestrian hit by a van on Monday has died in hospital, gardaí have said.

The incident happened at about 7.45am when the 16-year-old boy was walking on the Clane Road near Sallins in Co Kildare.

Gardaí said he was crossing the road when he was struck by the van and seriously injured.

He was taken to Naas Hospital and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital. He died on Tuesday evening.

The driver of the van was uninjured. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area between 7.40am and 7.45am on Monday morning.

They have asked in particular for any motorists with a dash cam to contact Naas Garda station on (045) 884 300, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any station.
