VIEWERS of NBC's Superchannel will be familiar with America's favourite breakfast programme, the Today show.
Its celebrity presenters Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric arrive in Ireland today to broadcast a full week's worth of the programme from the Powerscourt Centre in Dublin and the streets of Kinsale.
The reason for the broadcast, according to the show's producers, is that interest in Ireland is at an all time high in the States. Guests will include Mary Black, Darina Allen and Sybil Connolly, the grand dame of Irish fashion, who is now one of Tiffany's top designers. The very perky Katie has been warned to pack a sensible gansey, though she's disappointed that their tight schedule rules out a visit to the Aran Islands. Bryant is slightly more optimistic that he'll be able to fulfil his tourist wish list he intends going on a pub crawl so he can "sample the local beers".
