Ireland will come to a standstill tomorrow as in a national day of mourning for the victims of the United States terrorist atrocities.

Banks, businesses, schools and State Departments will all be closed and transport companies will operate a limited Sunday service.

Earlier the Taoiseach Mr Ahern said Irish people were "shocked to the core", added: "We will show our solidarity with the victims, the families, and the people of the United States".

Mr Ahern, and the President Mrs McAleese, will attend an ecumenical service at the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin to mark the day.
