The Irish sailing team has won the overall team title and the youth title at the World Mirror Championships in Tasmania today.
The World Championship title went to the Irish No.3 pairing of Chris Clayton and Craig Martin of Bangor, Co. Down who held off a strong late challenge by current Irish National Champions Andrew Woodward and James Bendon from Crosshaven, Co. Cork.
On a day when the Irish contingent completely dominated in the water, there is still the possibility of an Irish clean-sweep of the podium.
The jury is still out as they consider a penalty against the Australian boat that finished third. If the Australian pair - Glen and Lloyd Collings - are adjudged to have infringed in a port and starboard incident, then Bobby Collins and Fintan Hughes from Dun Laoghaire will be promoted to third place.
Clayton and Martin followed in the footsteps of Peter Bayly and William Atkinson of Lough Derg YC who won the world title in Howth in 2000.
